The Brown Album is Truly Golden
There's no band in the history of music that has been through so many trials and tribulations that has still managed to produce such mind-bending music as this one. Once said to be a cross between Nine Inch Nails, Jefferson Airplane, Pearl Jam, and The Mamas and the Papas, the Earthworms are back in action, but under a new name.
WOODBLOCK has managed to resurrect all of the original members and add a key player to the band. Keyboardist/Special Effects Master, John Noland, has added a new dimension to the music of WOODBLOCK. With the combined talents of the original members, and the fresh ideas and intuition of Noland, The Brown Album proves to be their most provocative work to this day. Their opening song, “ButtRash”, emphasizes the vocal talents of Lead Singer Tim "Cooter" Rude. His anger-filled, raspy voice and limited amount of enthusiasm is the perfect combination to set the tone of the album. The second song, “Who Cut the Cheese?” accentuates the funk-like guitar playing skills of Five String Specialist, Michele Hennigh while bassist Natalie Sharbaugh provides an eerily intriguing bass line, as throughout the entire album. “Skid Marks” picks up the pace once again and stresses the expertise of Special Effects Master, John Noland, while the following song, “Bunghole” highlights his Keyboard playing talents. “Silent but Deadly” is a song that really showcases the talents of the entire band, especially drummer, Rob Lukasiewicz who lays down some killer beats. The contrast between the “silent” verse, and loud chorus proves that the band has matured greatly since their previous album. The closer, “WOODBLOCK”, which is actually a cover song of their original title song, “EARTHWORMS” is a happy tune that lets everyone listening know that WOODBLOCK is happy to be reunited once again. Also, if you like surprises, you may be in luck!
WOODBLOCK produced and recorded the entire Brown Album at LF Studios on July 30, 2001 after being banished from their original choice, MB II Studios. Although WOODBLOCK continues to come across many vicissitudes, there’s nothing that can stop them. Just let them choose a new band name and keep the music flowing.
